The Merciless III by Danielle Vega

The Merciless III: Origins of Evil

"This book contains graphic violence that may be disturbing to some readers. Readers discretion is advised."

The Merciless III is the third book in The Merciless Series. The Merciless III can also be considered a prequel to The Merciless Series, however, it is suggested to read the series in the correct order.
Reading this review will contain spoilers from the first two books.
Below is a link to my reviews for both The Merciless & The Merciless II.

The Merciless

"Brooklyn knows that there's no good without evil, no right without wrong. And when a helpless girl calls her teen helpline, whispering that someone is hurting her, Brooklyn knows that she needs to save her anonymous caller, even if it means doing something bad.

Her parents and friends assure her the call was probably a prank but Brooklyn has always had a tendency to take over, whether someone has asked for help or not.

She discovers the call came from Christ First Church and finds herself plunged into the cultish community of its youth group. She's especially drawn to Gavin, the angelic yet tortured pastor's son.

Torn between an unstoppable attraction to Gavin and her obsession with the truth, Brooklyn is forced to make a devastating choice to rid Christ Church of evil once and for all. . . . But the devil has plans for Brooklyn's soul." (goodreads)

There are so many exciting things about this book;
One, getting the perspective from Brooklyn. After the insane ending in The Merciless II, I have doubts if Brooklyn was the person who killed Riley, Alexis and Grace, or if it was really Sofia and her delusions making her think it was Brooklyn. I am very interested in Brooklyn's character and we finally get a glimpse of inside her mind.
Two, getting another book of Riley, Alexis and Grace. Their characters were also really interesting and am looking forward to seeing them again. Also that added suspense that you know how they end up dead is eerie.
Three, Danielle Vega has said this is her favorite and most gruesome of The Merciless books. WHAT!? There have been some pretty horrific deaths in the first two novels, and even more disturbing torture scenes, I cannot imagine how this could get more escalated. Clearly Sofia is an amateur.
I read the first four chapters of The Merciless III back in April and was immediately hooked. Brooklyn is so different than what we saw of her in The Merciless, and I think that sympathetic connection is something I did not really suspect. In The Merciless, Brooklyn went from being the odd girl, to the victim, to the villain, to the deranged psychopathic murder. It's hard to come down from that image Sofia has paranoid us with.

This book however was like finding the perfect puzzle piece. I can definitely see why Vega choose to not make this book a prequel, but add it into the series before the epic last book. I feel like I understand so much more about Brooklyn and even Riley. It has totally changed my view on both characters.
And oh yes, this book has some messy death scenes, that will not disappoint.

Also, THAT EPILOGUE. Could not have had a more perfect ending and I definitely plan on rereading all three books before The Merciless IV comes out.

Things I need from The Merciless IV:
- Confirmation if it was Brooklyn, who was found dead in the woods near Riley's cabin, or Sofia and her delusions that actually killed Riley, Alexis & Grace.

- Sofia being in an Insane Asylum is exactly where I wanted her to be and cannot believe that is where she ended up. I am expecting some horrible things to take place in there.

- Sofia to be saved or have the most gruesome death in the series.

Can this series end well?
Or will it devil win?
